what stayed with me wasn't the anatomy — it was what moved beneath it.

ever since i first saw rodin's the thinker in Paris, two things have stayed with me. the first was rodin's mastery of anatomy — the sheer precision of the human form. but far more than that, it was the emotion beneath the surface, something closer to impressionism than to figurative exactness. that tension between what the body shows and what it holds has never let go of me.

deep thinking carries that same question into my own language: a figure resolved enough to be recognised, and open enough to still be feeling something.
